History of the Mini faux wood blinds

cheap blinds made of narrow, light-weight horizontal wood slats, adjustable to admit or exclude light, were developed in 1794, and called Venetian discount blinds. The cellular shades were often used instead of window curtains or shutters. In the 1840s, these faux wood blinds were held together by flat strips of cloth instead of by cords perhaps to shade the lift holes and like today they came in various colors. In 1966, a new pulley system was invented which afforded great improvement in the control mechanism. Over time, narrower slats became more common, as they were easier to clean and they reduced glare at certain settings and their appearance was pleasing to many. In 1946 Henry Sonnenberg and Joe Hunter developed technology and equipment for the production of lightweight aluminum slats (50 mm) for Venetian buy blinds, and by 1979, 25 mm slats were popular.

Roller Shades Serve Many Needs

Among the most popular window treatments these days, roller shades are growing the fastest. This great popularity is driven by a new assortment of fabrics that can allow roller shades to achieve new results, easily. As a window treatment, roller shades once held the position of most basic choice. Only available in a handful of colors, roller shades could be decorated with a small assortment of decorative trims or tassels. However, recent innovations in decorative roller shade fabrics as well as light filtering shade fabrics, have led to significant advances and increasingly more situations where roller shades can be used.

Room darkening blackout roller shades work simply by covering the opening with a vinyl coated fiberglass roller shade fabric which blocks nearly all the light that attacks a window. The light which does enter is the exception of any light that passes around the shade on the sides, top or bottom. Among the most difficult, but not impossible problems to eliminate is the problem where sunlight circumvents roller shades, even when the shade is installed outside the window frame. Nevertheless, blocking the main light from the bulk of the window is usually a sufficient result with roller shades. Innovative manufacturers of roller shade control systems can now make guiding channels for the roller shades, forcing them to fully repel light so it cannot pass by the sides of the shades. These side channel roller shades are extremely expensive, but if they solve the sleep or entertainment needs of clients, and make a roller shade truly blackout, then price is not an issue.

Bamboo Blinds

I have always had this problem with finding blinds and drapes. You see, I can never quite decide on what I want. Shades are okay, but they tend to get dusty very easily and fade in the sunlight. Blinds, on the other hand, have a pretty dull look to them from the beginning. I think Venetian blinds are great, but I can’t stand that cheap plastic look that so many of them have. I thought I would be doomed to be unhappy with my window coverings forever, but then I discovered bamboo blinds. Now, my decorative issues are solved.

Bamboo has become one of the most popular construction materials in the last few years because of its rich and beautiful color, its durability, and it’s cheapness and availability in many countries. People use it in flooring, in decoration, and in furniture all the time nowadays. I was unaware until recently, however, that you could get bamboo window blinds. I was delighted to find that out. They are gorgeous and extremely practical. Because they are made of slots of wood, bamboo blinds can cover the window almost completely, blocking out most light. Nonetheless, this doesn’t involve a sacrifice of appearance. They are still very attractive, and actually work very well as a decorative element in your room. Best of all, they are quite durable. They don’t fade in sunlight, they don’t get stained easily, and unless you break, them they will last forever.

Prepare For New Trends in Bamboo Shades

Filed under: bamboo shades, window treatments — Tags: , — admin @ 2:55 pm

The new trends in bamboo shades have included a movement towards the unconventional. Traditional American consumers have gone for basic white in window treatments. While there have always been sales of white bamboo shades, woven woods consumers have usually trended more toward the unique patterns. This will include different types of slat materials as well as new weaving and interlacing of threads.

Basic stick design has been replaced by more bamboo looking materials. The bamboo shades which use tortoise shell patterns are now increasingly common. These bamboo shades sometimes are colored differently, including black or red, which makes for a different type of color splash compared to the traditional greenish brown colors. Other designs use different sections of the split bamboo as the base. Much of this material was considered not attractive enough for bamboo shades, but now, with new production techniques, as well as the other new trends discussed in this article, these former scrap discards are being used in a productive way.

Cellular Shades Help To Insulate

Filed under: cellular shades, window treatments — Tags: , — admin @ 2:50 pm

During the cooler nights of fall and spring, most people like to sit at home with the windows open and enjoy the freshness of the outside within the safety and confines of their beautiful homes. This sought after feeling of relaxation oftentimes is interrupted by the “worldly” sounds of neighbors and nearby roadways which forces us to once again recluse ourselves in order to hopefully find the much desired peace of mind. Issue is also taken with the unwelcome brightness which is out of our control unless we have the proper window treatment which can help us regain the peaceful setting we deserve. These aforementioned conditions can be partially alleviated by the installation of cellular shades. Unique to cellular shades is the pocket of air within the cells which muffles outside sounds and with the advent of light blocking materials, light control can be added to the list of benefits cellular shades are able to provide.

The selection of the right cellular shade for a particular room in your home or office which requires meeting certain criteria according to specific requirements is complicated by the large quantity of materials available. One would think that the greater the selection the easier the process, but the opposite is the reality. There many styles and hundreds of colors to choose from. Many questions arise during this process - What is the best color? Do I need light/sun control? Should I choose single or double cell? Should the cellular shade be installed inside or outside of the window frame? One shade or two shades for double windows? Does the facing direction of the window make a difference? Is privacy an issue? We will try to cover most of these questions in this article as we move forward.

Decorative Iron Shutters

A window shutter is a solid and stable window covering usually consisting of a frame of vertical stiles and horizontal rails (top, center and bottom). Within this frame can be set louvers (both operable or fixed), solid panels, glass, fabric, and virtually any other item that can be mounted within a frame. Shutters may be installed for any number of reasons including to provide privacy, controlling the amount of sunlight that enters a room and to protect against weather. Depending on the application, and the construction of the window frame, shutters can be mounted to overlap the opening or fit within the opening. The term window shutter applies to many types of coverings including both interior and exterior shutters, used on the inside of a house or building, and exterior shutters, used on the outside of a structure. On some styles of buildings it is common to have decorative iron shutters to cover the doors as well as the windows.

Cellular Shades and Blinds

Shades are window coverings or casings, which sieve and filter the strong sunlight from entering a room and hence, helping it remain cool. Cellular shades or light filtering shades are very artistic and are a visual delight. This is due to their unique honeycomb shape. When the shades are lowered, they afford adequate seclusion to the owner but at the same time allow light to filter in. Many a times these shades are made in wood, so that they act as effective insulators by preventing the cold to enter the rooms.

Cellular shades are accordion-style in shape and light in weight. They are available in soft textured woven or non-woven fabrics as well. The blinds are packed in such a manner as to create their unique cross-sectional shape, which traps air and creates energy efficiency and sound reduction. Cellular shades not only provide solitude but also promote energy savings. This is possible because of the natural light filtering in the room even when the shades are lowered. These shades are assembled out of several sheets of materials and have many linked chambers that form a distinctive honeycomb pattern.

What is a Mini cellular shades?

The long horizontal slats are held one above the other by the rungs of window coverings shaped like a ladder. The lower ends of the legs of the window treatments are secured to the long rail under the slats. Their upper ends are attached to the drive rod in the housing, the elongated box above the slats. As the drive rod rotates, one leg of each ladder cord moves up while the other moves down, causing the angle of the slats to change. In one design, this rotation is achieved by pushing up or pulling down on a long handle called a tilt wand connected to the drive rod by a lever. Lift cords along the mini blinds are also attached to the rail. They pass through holes in the slats and into the housing above, where they go over pulleys, combine and exit through the cord lock. For safety it’s important that the lock always work. A downward pull on the main lift cord raises the slats by the cords pulling up the rail below the slats. The cord lock holds the main lift cord to keep the slats up until the cord is pulled to release the lock. The safety lock made the cord lock easier to use.
