When you imagine a valance hanging in your home, you may envision it hanging over a small window or topping another drapery treatment. Did you know, however, that there is another way to use the valance that coordinates with your room?  Valances are a great way to create an understated shower curtain treatment. Instead of going for the standard curtain that was displayed with your bathroom accessories, choose a solid-colored curtain that uses a color found in the rest of your accessories. Then, hand the valance on a tension rod in front of your shower curtain. Your room will still have that decorator’s feel without totally copying the showroom floor.

We were in a little antique mall in the Phoenix area last September and I saw these wonderful little O rings with clips attached…they were hanging from a wire that was attached beneath a little shelf in someone’s booth. Hanging from the clips were old photos/instant ancestors.

I bought some drapes from a consignment shop, and they have rings insitead of a rod pocket. What kind of hardware do you use for this?
Ok so all 4 sets already have rods attached. I should buy curtain rods+ a decorative rod?  The decorative rods attach to the actual curtain rods that are attached?  This is the first time i’ve used fancy curtains. I just buy sheer with a rod pocket and a valance! Wanted something special so I got these.

For oh so many years I’ve stuck with bargain hunting for drapery rods and window panels, and made do with less than the best for very practical reasons. Food, gas, and the PG&E bill rank higher on my priority list than fancy curtains. But this time I decided to splurge and get exactly what I want: privacy lined linen drapes, tissue weight linen sheers, and pewter-finish double rods. But, I skipped the fancy curtain rings because I assumed that the expensive fabric and double rods were all I really needed to get the look I wanted.

Mmmmmm…gotta love those peanut butter kisses at Halloween time. I couldn’t resist a bag while at the store today, my first bag of the season! Yum.

Maybe you’re wondering where I’ve been for a whole week without a single blog (but then again, maybe you didn’t notice I was gone). Well, I survived a whole weekend with Winn’s extended family at their reunion in Iowa. Between his mom’s five sisters (one, Aunt Jenny, has passed away), one brother, their spouses, children, and grandchildren, there was a total of 74 present over the weekend! My ears just stopped ringing today. It was a lot of fun though. I’m pretty fortunate where in-laws are concerned. They’re all such kind and creative and lovely people. I’m especially mesmerized by Winn’s cousin Winnie (their family has a thing with naming kids alike). I really am. In fact, I would often find myself staring at her. How embarrassing! I hope she doesn’t read this. She is one of the most beautiful women I know, and so poised and compassionate. She and her husband have four darling kids, of which the youngest two are toddler twin boys! I don’t know how she does it.
