Window coverings seem to be the bane of my decorating existence. On HGTV they make it look so simple but for me, finding decent window coverings and actually getting them installed has been a monumental task. A task that is still not complete, even though we’re inching up on FOUR years spent living in this house. I don’t know if it’s just us being home-improvement idiots, but hanging curtain rods always turns into a ridiculous affair replete with curse words, extraneous holes in the wall and stripped drill bits (it would appear that all our doors/windows are framed out in titanium). Last year we finally hung curtain rods over the kitchen window and the adjacent sliding glass door and ever since then I’ve been on the hunt for appropriate window fashions. The slider is a problem all its own: it needs full-length curtains because we get the dreaded fish-bowl effect from the house that backs up to ours. I found some plain but serviceable insulated curtains from J.C.Penny, which finally arrived in February and have been sitting in their bag at the base of the window ever since. Ahem.

A couple of other curtain ideas include:
1. Instead of throwing away old draperies, try making placemats out of them – make some matching coasters as well.
2. Old draperies could be transformed into little doll blankets for the children. See the little eyes light up because you’ve made something special for their “baby”.
3. Twin flat sheets make great curtains for a child’s room. You can use the design of your choice, and they’re already hemmed!
4. Bath towels make excellent bathroom curtains. Either hang them with the clip rings, or turn down one end for a casing. Use ribbon, or some other trim for the tie backs, or just let them hang.
Anyone lucky enough to have bay windows has a great looking addition to a room with the additional seating possibility it offers, but may also face a challenge getting curtain ideas for bay window requirements. Obviously, ordinary curtains and rods won’t work for a curved bank of bay windows, and even for single windows there are issues. Bay window treatments will vary with the style and number of the windows, the use of the room, and the style of the residents as well. For those who want to do their own design and decorating, curtain ideas for bay window situations can even mean learning to use special tools to reshape and fit traditional hardware to fit window openings that are not flat and shallow. Curtains for bay windows can be treated like any other as the simplest option when single windows are involved, with maybe mini blinds directly on the window part and the curtains flush with the walls. This of course will lose the effect of the window design and makes it hard to use the window box as a seat.

Window coverings are an important part of interior decoration. Putting a curtain on a window is like icing on a pastry. It gives finishing touch to the room. The colours you choose reflect your style, your mood and also have an impact on the environment where you live and also work. Choosing window curtains can appear to be overwhelming as there are many varieties to choose from. If you can get the guidance you will be able to express the ideas you have. Keep in mind that windows tend to occupy large areas of the wall so what you put on them will have direct impact on the room. While choosing a curtain consider the privacy of the room – if you want curtain to cover the room completely if the windows open out onto busy streets or into neighbours house. The light control is another factor – whether the glare from the window is distracting your work or while watching TV. Function and style are other factors, which you need to keep in mind while putting curtains in the rooms.

Many new homes are adorned dramatically with a wall in the main room that features a wall of windows. A wall of windows is a wall in a room that holds all or most of the windows of the room and may have several rows of windows. There is much more windows to the wall than actual wall. Dressing a wall of windows can be challenging. You don’t want to lessen the effect of the windows, meanwhile you may want to add a personal touch to the wall that makes it unique to your style. A good way to add an extra element to a wall of windows without using curtains is to install architectural art pieces in between the walls of windows. This will make your windows stand out as unique in a neighborhood where everyone has a similar feature in their home.
