There are benefits to using window blinds that go beyond just the way they look. Our home has many different sizes and shapes of windows, some of them quite unusual. One of the benefits to having your windows covered is that the blinds help with saving energy. Much of the energy costs in your home could be reduced if you put quality blinds up in your home. We found arch window blinds to cover our unusual windows, and it feels good knowing that they are not only there to look great, but to save us money in the winter and summer as well.

Windows are your home’s link to the outside world, and an expression of your personal style. Window shades and blinds affect a room’s lighting, it’s color and even the temperature. The window treatments you choose can establish your home’s mood, whether it is casual or formal.

Hard times are giving new meaning to Kermit the Frog’s famous lament, “It’s not easy being green.”
SMALL, STYLISH CHANGES
There are small changes, some even stylish, we can make that will have a significant environmental benefit. It just so happens that nearly 5 percent of all energy consumed in the United States is lost through the windows of our homes.
“Effectively designed window coverings can cut that consumption in half,” Lobosco says.
What homeowners need to appreciate is that the more control they can achieve over natural light, the better they can manage energy consumption
For example, people with windows facing the rising or setting sun can employ solar energy during chilly weather to help keep warm. The right shades will open to let in solar radiation during the day and then close to trap warm air at sunset when days turn chilly.
Conversely, a window treatment that can be drawn closed before the summer sun starts to shine into windows can help keep rooms cool. Options are truly endless and many are inexpensive.

Having your draperies cleaned by a professional can help them stay new and fresh for many years. Draperies can dress up any room in your house, even though they may absorb sunlight, dust, and smoke. These things allow them to loose their looks quickly, while also being dusty and smelling bad. You can keep dust from building up on your drapes by vacuuming them periodically. Draperies in rooms that have high levels of traffic should be cleaned at least every 6 months. Sometimes your draperies can develop spots or stains. If this problem occurs, call in a professional to help maintain the appearance of your draperies. A professional has the knowledge to clean them and make them look brand new again. Window coverings may need to be cleaned as often as your carpeting due to all of the dust and dirt that may settle on them.

Sooner or later, those lovely draperies that you have in your home will have to be cleaned. How they get cleaned and how good they look when they’re done can really vary, depending on what they are made of and whether you pay close attention to cleaning them correctly. Some of them have to be dry-cleaned. Some of them can be washed and dried, but there might be specific requirements as to how this should be done – and how often. One of the things you can do between cleanings, though, to help keep them looking nice, is to vacuum them. Don’t just get your big, upright vacuum cleaner out of the closet and go to it, however. Some of the larger uprights have way too much suction for draperies, even if you use an attachment. Others can work with draperies, but if they are very delicate they can still be damaged.
