Sheer Draperies

Extra-wide sheer fabrics are those which exceed 54″, and are intended to be used railroaded, in order to produce full-length seamless draperies on wide windows. Do-it-yourself decorators are often confused about the concept of railroaded fabric. Typically, home decorating fabric is woven and printed so that the cut edges become the top and bottom of the finished product, and the selvedges become the side seams. Railroaded fabrics are woven and printed so that the cut edges become the side seams and the selvedges become the hem and heading of the drapery. Some of these fabrics will include a decorative border or a beaded weight or “Euro-hem” finish along the hemline. Determine the style of drapery and the type of curtain rod you will be using prior to purchasing your
fabric.

Frugal Decorating: Use What You Have

I love for my home to be pretty, feel cozy, and have a welcoming and lived-in feel. I care about how it looks and strive to make it beautiful. I don’t have a lot of money to do it though, so I find myself having to be creative. I can’t just drop hundreds of dollars on window treatments, new furniture, and decor. Here are a few ideas from around my house to help make a house a home, make home feel personal and comfortable, vibrant and inviting without spending a lot of money.
Window Mistreatments
I learned this one from The Nester. I wasn’t a believer until I actually tried it and discovered it really was as easy as it sounded and didn’t just look pretty in her photos but was actually functional and pretty in real life. Shocker. Seriously, a lot of stuff I see in pictures I think that people make look and sound easy but they aren’t. This is.

Fabrics for Window Treatments

Window treatments can be one of the most significant design elements in a room making the design process a bit overwhelming. Window treatments can become the focal point of the room if you choose color, contrast, large fabric patterns, layers of fabric, or large-scale fabric treatments. So the choice of a fabric pattern can impact the final outcome of the room. As a comparison, drapery panels that have little pattern and match the wall color will fade into the background. These draperies will appear muted and not provide much contrast. This effect is desired if you already have strong design elements in the room or desire a “calm” effect.

Accessories for a house – The Yardstick

The two most important rooms in a house are the kitchen and the bedroom. These two rooms need to definitely be furnished well and also accessorized in the right way. The finishing touches include pillows, covers, curtains, drapes, wood panels etc. Kitchens need to have the right colors and the right blinds or shutters. Bead Curtain Tips

Bead curtains have been associated with Asian cultures for ages, but the popularity of bead curtains in the west developed much later, hitting its zenith during the 1960s. Bead curtains are trimmed to fit across a doorframe or within a window frame. Bead curtains are relatively inexpensive, decorative and colorful. Bead curtains are really making a big comeback, and are more intricate and extremely beautiful than ever before. We are dedicated to helping beaded curtain buyers sourcing and purchasing from beaded curtain manufacturers, suppliers and exporters. Curtains are an essential dining room arm chair to successful home decoration. Beaded curtains come already assembled and are easy to install. Beaded curtains can be used in window treatments, especially glass beads. Beaded curtains can also be used as room dividers. Beaded curtains, besides being used as beaded doorway curtains, can be used as wall hangings.

Hardware for Drapes?

Filed under: Draperies, Drapery Accessories, Drapery Rings, Hardware — content @ 8:00 am

I bought some drapes from a consignment shop, and they have rings insitead of a rod pocket. What kind of hardware do you use for this?
Ok so all 4 sets already have rods attached. I should buy curtain rods+ a decorative rod?  The decorative rods attach to the actual curtain rods that are attached?  This is the first time i’ve used fancy curtains. I just buy sheer with a rod pocket and a valance! Wanted something special so I got these.

Quality Window Hardware

Filed under: Draperies, Drapery Accessories, Drapery Hardware, Drapery Rings, Hardware — content @ 8:00 am

This is my ode to quality hardware for window treatments. For oh so many years I’ve stuck with bargain hunting for drapery rods and window panels, and made do with less than the best for very practical reasons. Food, gas, and the PG&E bill rank higher on my priority list than fancy curtains. But this time I decided to splurge and get exactly what I want: privacy lined linen drapes, tissue weight linen sheers, and pewter-finish double rods. But, I skipped the fancy curtain rings because I assumed that the expensive fabric and double rods were all I really needed to get the look I wanted.
