Decorating with Color

photos-795.jpg

Color is where we begin in decorating. It is the tool that we use to create effective interiors. Color is perhaps the most powerful technique that a designer can use to affect emotions. That is why it is important to consider color choices carefully . What is the function of the room and who will be primarily living in the space are questions that will help answer what color scheme to employ?

When color is done correctly, it can enhance the feelings of health and well being. Color can influence the perceived temperature of a room, making you feel cool or warm. Also, it can control the visual aspects of space, making a large room appears cozy or a small room, look spacious. Of course color has the power to influence romance, and to create a mysterious setting.

There are basically two choices when selecting a color scheme. For a more bold interior you can use a “complementary” color scheme. This is when the colors are opposite one another on the color wheel, such as red and green, blue and yellow, or purple and orange. If you like your room to be more serene, you can go with the “analogous” color scheme. These are colors that are close to each other on the color wheel, such as yellow and green, blue and violet, or red and orange.

When deciding on color in a room that already have decorative items in it, such as an oriental rug or a sofa, I love to pull the colors from an existing pattern. It is an effective technique that will pull a room together. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard, “Wow, I can’t believe how window treatments complete a room!”

Let us guide your color decisions through your emotional temperament so you can enjoy your home for years to come.

The Beauty of Roman Shades

Buying a home with character and life gives you an excellent chance to try your hand at decorating it and making it into a home to be proud of. Curtain Ideas

Window curtains are an important feature in your house as they protect the insides of your home. They give you your privacy and also block the harsh rays of the sun. They help control the temperature inside the room. They block draughts of air from blowing in. They also protect your furniture from UV light. Windows can add to the aesthetic value of your room. In fact you can completely spoil the tasteful decoration of your room by choosing the wrong curtains.

Dark paper window “shades”

We do run ceiling fans in both bedrooms and keep all the interior doors open as much as possible to encourage good air flow. And with the daughter away for much of the summer, I’ve closed the curtains in her bedroom to limit the sunshine that goes into there. (If we close the drapes in the living / dining part of the house, it gets quite dark and we feel a bit claustrophobic.) But here’s something else I did two summers ago, and this morning put up again: dark paper window “shades” in the master bedroom. Our bedroom has hand-me-down white lacy curtains. They’re pretty against the dark red walls. We plan to get wooden shutters to go under the curtains, but that’s not in the budget right now. We have white paper temporary shades on the bottom half of the windows for privacy.

Window treatements that are totally GREEN

Current statistic show that around 30% of householders want the government to help and establish a network of trades that will work together to create a uniform body that can advise and regulate what window coverings or blinds would be most suitable for their home or business Its also about using products that aren’t going to be harmful to the environment or that may sustain products for a longer time on windows.

Window Treatments That Will Keep Your Home Cool This Summer

Solar shades are attractive looking from the outside, and don’t block your view from the inside.  Available in several colors, solar screens are becoming a popular option among homeowners whose windows face the full glare of the sun. Installed on the outside of your home, these shades block the sun’s rays from entering the house, which makes them one of the most effective heat-reducing window treatments on the market. Solar screens also prevent the sun’s UV rays from coming into the home, which protects your furniture from sun damage and fading. In addition, solar screens also have the added benefit of keeping insects out of your home, which is a great feature during the summer months.

New Perspectives

Before entering this industry, I was completely unaware of the vast number of options available to consumers when it comes to window treatments. My knowledge of window fashions was basically limited to the window fashions I saw in department and retail stores … standard blinds, horizontal blinds, roller shades. Little did I know there was an entire world of window fashions that existed beyond my limited experiences. Only after immersing myself in the window-fashions industry for the last eight months have I come to realize the importance of window treatments … from energy savings, to light control, to privacy, to aesthetics. In fact, I’ve found myself fascinated with the subject … realizing that whenever I enter a home (whether for the first time or the hundredth time), I find myself immediately drawn to the window. Bare windows stick out like a sore thumb. While this is obvious to those who have been immersed in the industry for years, it is not so obvious to consumers. Many consumers have no idea the options they have when it comes to what they place on their windows. Most consumers may not realize the value of window fashions until they are presented with the facts—window fashions really do have the ability to transform a room’s design from “great” to “extraordinary.” As a window-fashions professional, it’s your mission to enlighten them. Educate them on energy savings, on temperature control, on lighting aspects, on how adding this one element to their design can literally transform a room into a work of art. Here at Window Fashions, we’d like to know how you incorporate window fashions into your designs. What strategies do you use to get your clients interested in window treatments? And what have you learned from your clients when it comes to their views on window fashions? We want to know!
