Interior Home Design - Window Treatments

Curtains are a fast way to bring new life and color to any room, and now home decorators can create them more quickly and easily than ever. One clever example: simply clip an attractive tablecloth or tea towel onto a rod. Curtains and drapes will give you the more traditional window covering that you can combine with window shades and blinds.

Choosing a great window treatment idea can be a daunting task if you’re not sure where to start.

Measure each window separately and record the measurements on paper. Be sure to check all measurements twice before you purchase a new window treatment. Measuring and installation is available in the Brooklyn, NY area. Measure from the point you’ll hang the shade to the point where you want it to drop. Add an extra two inches to the top portion of the window frame to allow for mounting brackets.

There are many types of window treatments to choose from. Aside from the standard curtains and drapes here are: wood blinds, pleated shades, cellular shades, plantation shutters, aluminum mini blinds, and vertical blinds are only a few of the many options available.

Window Treatments - The Finishing Touch To Your Home Remodel

Sounds obvious enough, right? And, in a way it is. I have seen many beautiful examples and many not-so-beautiful examples. The trick is to match up the decorating themes of a given room with the appropriate window treatment. The other choices are color, insulating properties, light control and privacy. By the way, I take window treatments to mean almost any window covering: blinds, shades, shutters and drapes. There doesn’t seem to be much consensus on what a window treatment is so I am taking the broadest definition.

Choosing the right blinds and shades can get a little more complicated than these few choices. For example there are motorized blinds, cordless, valance options, wand control and more. But for the purposes of this article I will stick mostly to the major themes as mentioned above. Once you have chosen the appropriate blind, shade, shutter or drape, you can decide if you want to add any of the convenience options offered by the manufacturer.

Latest Fabric Window Treatment Ideas

Drapes are fine but they are not as useful and contemporary as a window blind or shade. Many people want the look and warmth of fabric with the operation and flexibility of a window shade. Drapes are either open or closed with little in between, not the most useful for light control. Whereas the various fabric window shades available offer a much wider range of decorating and light control options.

So, if you want fabric, here are some window treatments you should consider: roman shades, roller shades and panel track blinds. The first two are window shades, i.e. they roll or fold up. Not to be confused with window blinds which have slats or vanes, e.g. mini blinds or vertical blinds. Panel track blinds are kind of in a class by themselves. The closest comparison would be to vertical blinds, but vertical blinds typically have vinyl slats or vanes. Panel tracks have larger vertical vanes usually made from fabric or some kind of solar shade material. They operate on a wheeled track system.

If you are looking for the greatest variety of fabric options, roman shades, which are also known as fabric shades, are probably your best bet. Roman shades come in a wide variety of styles and fabrics from silk, linen, suede and weaves combining natural materials like grasses, reeds and more. Roman shades also offer features from insulated, to room darkening and blackout, to light filtering and sheer.

Uses Of Drapery Fabric

Using discount drapery fabric as part of your decorating scheme is a simple and inexpensive way to update your home design. Don’t be tempted to limit yourself to curtains when considering this style of material, drapery fabric can be used to fashion table covers, seat cushions, pillow cases and even duvet covers.

The traditional art of sewing seems to be every decorator’s worst nightmare and they have come up with numerous ingenious way to use drapery fabric in the home without having to sew a stitch.

The first way is simply to fold fabric before you hang it. Careful accordion folds will hang well and will maintain their shape if good quality heavy fabric is used. You can thread the folded material through rings fitted to the walls to create a classic valance, with tails that cascade down on either side.

Another way to avoid the sewing machine is to use a heat activated adhesive, specifically designed for fabric. This has the appearance of a thin sheet of web-like white material and you place it between two pieces of material to fasten them together. When you run a hot iron over the material the glue is activated and secures the material. Always make sure the adhesive is washable if necessary, as many are not.

Blackout Curtains For Your Home

It is easy to buy a drape that will decorate your window, but to locate a window treatment which stops sunlight is quite different. Cutting the light at the window brings a lot of advantages , but we will talk about that later.

When we are buying drapes for our apartment, quite often they are thin to a certain degree. Those curtain are also giving a light to enter, as well as allowing people to look in our room. If we desire to completely stop incoming light with curtains and form ultimate privacy in your apartment, the best way to do it is by acquiring blackout curtains. Usually they can stand on our window frames by themselves, but they can be very easily attached to the already present drape by hanging them on the existing drape rings. Create and make plenty of other solutions by yourself, there are absolutely no limitations to what you can do with good tools and some ideas.

Blackout drapes can be hung in different styles such as using velcro or just by sewing the lining to the drape we already have. Most of the time purchasing blackout curtain in general is hard because they form the main point to the design of your home and there are so many possibilities in styles. We think it’s valuable to be sure of the thickness of blackout curtains to make possible effective blocking of light. Attaining blackout curtain linings is a solution that gives more efficient solution to using blinds as shades do not really block outside light sources.

Using & Choosing Cellular Shades for Your Windows

Filed under: Draperies, cellular shades, drape, drapes, motorized drapes, motorized shades — Tags: — admin @ 8:00 am

Homeowners looking for shades that are guaranteed to help insulate their windows should consider installing a set of cellular shades. Uniquely designed in an ‘energy efficient’ honeycomb pattern, these interior ‘cells’ trap air to provide sound control and insulate windows against hot and cold temperatures. Attached and housed at the top of the window in an aluminum headrail, the shades are typically controlled by a pulley cord system. Cellular shades appear as smooth panels of fabric when they are closed over the window, then gather up on the pulley cords to fold neatly as they are raised in a manner similar to that of an accordion.

No sew roman shades

Window shades come in a diversity of styles and types. The simple roller shade is now only one preference among a huge selection of textures, colors, and materials. Window shades are repeatedly the first purchase of new homebuyers. No sew roman shades or cellular window shades are among the most accepted today. These shades are designed to insulate and can chunk up to 75% of heat transfer between the window and the room. This quality makes cellular window shades energy efficient in addition to their other benefits. Another trait of many cellular window shades is that they can be raised or lowered in either direction to allow for privacy similar to that of a caf curtain. They can be structured as light filtering which allows for privacy but allows light to fill a room or they can be totally opaque to block out all sunlight, which is good for bedrooms.
