Latest Fabric Window Treatment Ideas

Drapes are fine but they are not as useful and contemporary as a window blind or shade. Many people want the look and warmth of fabric with the operation and flexibility of a window shade. Drapes are either open or closed with little in between, not the most useful for light control. Whereas the various fabric window shades available offer a much wider range of decorating and light control options.

So, if you want fabric, here are some window treatments you should consider: roman shades, roller shades and panel track blinds. The first two are window shades, i.e. they roll or fold up. Not to be confused with window blinds which have slats or vanes, e.g. mini blinds or vertical blinds. Panel track blinds are kind of in a class by themselves. The closest comparison would be to vertical blinds, but vertical blinds typically have vinyl slats or vanes. Panel tracks have larger vertical vanes usually made from fabric or some kind of solar shade material. They operate on a wheeled track system.

If you are looking for the greatest variety of fabric options, roman shades, which are also known as fabric shades, are probably your best bet. Roman shades come in a wide variety of styles and fabrics from silk, linen, suede and weaves combining natural materials like grasses, reeds and more. Roman shades also offer features from insulated, to room darkening and blackout, to light filtering and sheer.

How to Make Roman Shades

Roman shades are a simple and elegant window treatment to block the sun or prying neighbors. Nicer than plain plastic shades, but less expensive than ornate window shades, Roman shades provide the perfect start to a beginning home decorator.

Roman shades can be purchased from home improvement or department stores, or they can be custom made by in interior designer. The cheapest way to decorate your home with Roman shades is to make them yourself. Get ready to refresh your math skills!

To make Roman shades, first measure the window youd like to put them in. Measure the height and width of the window from inside its frame. Or, if you want the shade to cover more than the window, measure the height and width of the surface the shade will cover. Your shade will probably need to be between 45 and 54 inches wide.

No sew roman shades

Window shades come in a diversity of styles and types. The simple roller shade is now only one preference among a huge selection of textures, colors, and materials. Window shades are repeatedly the first purchase of new homebuyers. No sew roman shades or cellular window shades are among the most accepted today. These shades are designed to insulate and can chunk up to 75% of heat transfer between the window and the room. This quality makes cellular window shades energy efficient in addition to their other benefits. Another trait of many cellular window shades is that they can be raised or lowered in either direction to allow for privacy similar to that of a caf curtain. They can be structured as light filtering which allows for privacy but allows light to fill a room or they can be totally opaque to block out all sunlight, which is good for bedrooms.

Dark paper window “shades”

We do run ceiling fans in both bedrooms and keep all the interior doors open as much as possible to encourage good air flow. And with the daughter away for much of the summer, I’ve closed the curtains in her bedroom to limit the sunshine that goes into there. (If we close the drapes in the living / dining part of the house, it gets quite dark and we feel a bit claustrophobic.) But here’s something else I did two summers ago, and this morning put up again: dark paper window “shades” in the master bedroom. Our bedroom has hand-me-down white lacy curtains. They’re pretty against the dark red walls. We plan to get wooden shutters to go under the curtains, but that’s not in the budget right now. We have white paper temporary shades on the bottom half of the windows for privacy.

They add fresh a touch of class to your decorations and can be coordinated with other fabric items in your design scheme to achieve a unified, balanced effect. Having to have curtains, metal blinds or wooden shutters custom made to fit your windows can turn out to be very expensive and time consuming.

Add Some Style with Roman Shades

Filed under: Custom Shutters, bamboo shades, decor, home decor, interior décor, roman shades, shades — Tags: , — admin @ 8:00 am

One way to add some style to your bedroom, living room or any room in your home is to install some Roman Shades. They come in various materials and styles. What characterizes Roman Shades is how they fold up when they are retracted. Whether driven by a hand pulled string or by motor, Roman Shades fold up neatly at the top of the window frame. Roman shades can be made from many materials including bamboo, various fabrics, and wood. Bamboo Roman Shades can add an organic look to your room. On the other hand if you are looking for a more modern fabric, Roman Shades are available in a variety of colors. Classic Roman Shades have overlapping folds even when lowered while flat Roman Shades are smooth when lowered. They come in numerous styles to match any type of home decor and can be customized to fit even the most unique homes. For those who want low maintenance they can look into faux roman shades. This way they can enjoy the benefits of having faux wood without comprising on style. For people used to everyday drapes and blinds, Roman Shades may sound obscure but they are an easy way to add subtle character to your home.
