Protecting your home from tropical systems is important for coastal properties. This video from Lowe’s provides information about installing hurricane storm panels. This is just one of the hurricane shutter varieties that is available. There are, among others, roll-down shutters that are permanently installed in a housing above the opening and also accordion shutters that remain in place and ready to simply close upon a threatening storm. Both of these shutter systems are more expensive than the hurricane panel protection system.

The easiest way to change the look and feel of a room is to focus on the walls. The full potential of corner windows in this living room was unrealized until the advent of a vivid raspberry background. Sporting cute half-moon valances and sheer panels with raspberry walls.

Clean and current an inviting sunroom dressed in cool blues and greens puts to rest the notion that contemporary interiors must be cold and stark. On the contrary, a tranquil, spare environment is the result of mixing clean-lined, dramatic furnishings in pale fabrics with warm woods. For a touch of texture, the walls are lightly crosshatched to repeat the pattern from the gauzy cotton roll-up shades.

Hard times are giving new meaning to Kermit the Frog’s famous lament, “It’s not easy being green.”
SMALL, STYLISH CHANGES
There are small changes, some even stylish, we can make that will have a significant environmental benefit. It just so happens that nearly 5 percent of all energy consumed in the United States is lost through the windows of our homes.
“Effectively designed window coverings can cut that consumption in half,” Lobosco says.
What homeowners need to appreciate is that the more control they can achieve over natural light, the better they can manage energy consumption
For example, people with windows facing the rising or setting sun can employ solar energy during chilly weather to help keep warm. The right shades will open to let in solar radiation during the day and then close to trap warm air at sunset when days turn chilly.
Conversely, a window treatment that can be drawn closed before the summer sun starts to shine into windows can help keep rooms cool. Options are truly endless and many are inexpensive.

What are Curtain Rods
A curtain rod is a device for suspending curtains most of the time above windows or along the edges of showers, and actually, wherever curtain might be used. In the bathroom, curtain rods tend to be self-fixing and in other areas of the house are often installed with decorative brackets or with what is called a finial. Curtain rods can be made of materials like wood, metal or plastic and comes in many styles and designs. Not every curtain rod is a simple straight rod as there are curved and hinged rods available for use around curved walls and corners or bay windows. Aside from straight curtain rods there are also the crane or swing arm design.

Getting the right feel and look to your home requires a combination of things and nothing is more important than what’s covering your windows and sliding doors.
Bamboo shades may not be every one’s first choice when looking for window coverings but you should at least take a look. Despite their obvious exotic appearance, price wise, they are hard to beat. And no, they won’t affect the quality of your surrounding accessories.
Bamboo Shades Have Come Of AgeOnce upon a time, bamboo blinds tended to convey a tacky image and they tended to be used for one off situations such as a small window in the house but with the popularity of bamboo on the rise, things have changed considerably.
