Sheer Elegance!
If you think of granny’s lacy window covering when you think of sheers, you won’t for long! Sheer and translucent window shadings are now some of the most exciting and innovative available today.
Now you can choose from many designs, colors and styles that allow you to have varying degrees of light AND privacy, just beautiful translucence or tranquil, near-total privacy. They can also be used alone with a simple self-header for a trim and contemporary look, or paired with draperies and an elaborate valance or cornice for an elegant tailored effect. Whichever you choose, softened light and interior beauty will be yours!
Vertical or horizontal?
Color or white? Light or dark?

These are just a few of the choices you can now make when selecting from “the new sheers”.
The most extraordinary and desirable choices combine two layers of light-admitting sheer fabric with semi-opaque vertical or horizontal “vanes” between, that together create a glorious dual sheer effect. When the vanes are fully open, they allow outside ambience and light in like normal sheers. When they are partially or fully closed, they provide the kind of privacy everyone wants. Plus, they come in a great range of colors and textures sure to compliment any decor. I’d love to show you some of the latest styles.

For small windows, mini blinds could be your best window treatment alternative. They come in a wide variety of materials like vinyl, aluminum, wood and PVC plastic. Mini blinds can be a great way to decorate a small area due to them being a very inexpensive window treatment, their ease to use, and that they work well in combination with other window covering and blind treatments. They come in a vast combination of colors which makes them easy to blend or highlight an area. Installation is a key factor with mini blinds. Take for instance aluminum mini blinds, when installed properly they are extremely energy efficient, will protect furniture and flooring from those harmful UV rays, and can give great sound absorption. When deciding on your mini blinds a couple of things that you should take into consideration is how will the window blind fit into your room’s decor or what level of privacy you desire.
For instance you may want no light appearing when the blinds are closed and lots of privacy, you will want to choose a mini blind that is not transparent in material choice and closes very flat. But if privacy during the evening hours is not an issue and you want maximum daylight during the day, choosing a sheer mini blind is a beautiful answer to your needs. Overall, mini blinds can be the most cost effective start to your window treatment design and with their combination with other window treatments like curtains, cornices, swags, valances - you will achieve a very professional finish to your window decor that will enhance any rooms appeal.

You already know that I’m a big fan of Bali blinds. I think they are the best when it comes to customizing a living space, to make it reflect the personality of its owner.
I like wood, in all shades and textures. Bali wood blinds have always amazed me by the extremely wide range on wood shades they offer and by their durability and flexibility. There are several Bali sub-brand blinds which offer the variety of wooden slats. For example, the Bali Northern Heights 2″ wood blinds are amongst the best sellers and the biggest favorites of consumers, thanks in part to their price, which is lower than other popular window blinds brands. If you choose these Bali wood blinds made of North American Basswood, you’ll have the surprise of 18 finishes available, such as Regal Oak, Majestic Walnut, Deep Cherry, Saddle Brown or even Ebony. For people concerned with elegance, you can order a sculpted valance, for an additional cost.
I think that I’m going to install some Bali wood blinds in my summer residence as well.

In interior design, the blinds found on windows and doors are major decorating elements. Blinds made of wood or those with a wooden look add a feeling of warmth and coziness to the atmosphere in the room. They provide privacy without looking stark. They have an inviting look and add beauty to the rest of the furniture in the room. Interior decorators prefer wood blinds for their warmth, versatility, and durability. They can be custom-crafted to suit the décor of any room.
Wood blinds give a natural look to the room with a graceful charm. They look much better than traditional curtains or shutters. They look pretty from both inside and outside the window. In addition, window wood blinds are good insulators from heat or cold. For humid areas like windows in the bathrooms or in the kitchen, faux-wood blinds, which look exactly like wood blinds, can be used.
Wood blinds are crafted from two different types of wood in most cases: Ramin wood and Bass wood. Bass wood is the most preferred since it has more distinctive grain and is stronger. It is also good for staining. Blinds can be constructed with a no-hole option that enables the blinds to make the room really dark. Using a 3-inch valance on these blinds is very decorative. Ramin is the less expensive alternative and generally uses a 2-inch valance at the top of the window to hide the metal head rails.

Using discount drapery fabric as part of your decorating scheme is a simple and inexpensive way to update your home design. Don’t be tempted to limit yourself to curtains when considering this style of material, drapery fabric can be used to fashion table covers, seat cushions, pillow cases and even duvet covers.
The traditional art of sewing seems to be every decorator’s worst nightmare and they have come up with numerous ingenious way to use drapery fabric in the home without having to sew a stitch.
The first way is simply to fold fabric before you hang it. Careful accordion folds will hang well and will maintain their shape if good quality heavy fabric is used. You can thread the folded material through rings fitted to the walls to create a classic valance, with tails that cascade down on either side.
Another way to avoid the sewing machine is to use a heat activated adhesive, specifically designed for fabric. This has the appearance of a thin sheet of web-like white material and you place it between two pieces of material to fasten them together. When you run a hot iron over the material the glue is activated and secures the material. Always make sure the adhesive is washable if necessary, as many are not.

When you imagine a valance hanging in your home, you may envision it hanging over a small window or topping another drapery treatment. Did you know, however, that there is another way to use the valance that coordinates with your room? Valances are a great way to create an understated shower curtain treatment. Instead of going for the standard curtain that was displayed with your bathroom accessories, choose a solid-colored curtain that uses a color found in the rest of your accessories. Then, hand the valance on a tension rod in front of your shower curtain. Your room will still have that decorator’s feel without totally copying the showroom floor.
