Late summer is right outside your windows. That light out there can not only brighten your rooms literally, but also can improve the look and feel of your beautiful rooms. What better way to brighten you views than with new light filtering and light controlling window treatments that let as much or as little of the outdoors come inside your home as you choose!  Sheer draperies can filter sunlight, and add a warm glow to your home.  Shutters, shadings and wood blinds can all help bring light control and privacy - and by adding beautiful fabrics in drapery panels, top treatments and custom valances, you can have high function and high fashion.

Of all the window treatments you could buy for your home, only plantation shutters add real value to your home. Just ask a realtor. That’s not to say that all the other window treatments don’t add value; they certainly make your home more attractive and livable but they won’t necessarily add to the appraisal value. I guess it has something to do with the perceived longevity and permanency of shutters that distinguishes them from other blinds and shades.

This is not necessarily why you should choose plantation shutters for your home, it is just and added bonus to a classic choice. It is true that shutters are a long term choice as far as window treatments go. They are not the cheapest option and they are a little bit trickier to install then, say, a roller shade. And, they will, with normal care and maintenance, last you a good long time. They may even get passed down with the home.

Mini-blinds have replaced the old-fashioned Venetian blinds as more convenient and attractive window treatments. Blinds are window coverings that can have either vertical or horizontal slats, have an accordion or honeycomb construction, or are woven from natural or synthetic reeds. The only disadvantage they have is that they cannot be cleaned easily.

The mechanisms for opening and closing blinds range from simple cords and easy-to-operate continuous chains to remote-controlled electronic devices. Blinds block out sunlight, prevent curious passersby from peeping into your house, and also add to the decor of your house. They come in various styles. You can buy ready-made blinds or make them yourself at home.

There are mini blinds to fit everyone’s budget. Aluminum and vinyl mini blinds are the least expensive, while faux wood and wood blinds are at the top of the price range. You are sure to find mini blinds that will go with your decor with all of the choices that are available.

Decorating on a budget can be difficult, but vinyl mini blinds make it easier to get the look you want. Available in a wide range of colors, sizes, and styles, blinds are one option to expensive window treatments. Even if you eventually plan on adding other window treatments, mini blinds are a great starter treatment, so that you can spend money decorating other parts of the room while getting the privacy and light control that you need.

Manufacturers offer many different kinds of vinyl blinds. Although vinyl mini blinds are often one of the least expensive window treatments, you don’t need to settle for cheap or ugly looking blinds. There are blinds that have an embossed texture that make them appear to be made of fabric, for example. You can also find faux wood blinds or colors that will match your décor.

Vinyl blinds make great window treatments for several reasons:

They are ideal of humid environments like kitchens and bathrooms. Fabric and other materials can rot or have problems with mildew and mold. Vinyl prevents these issues, making the mini blinds practical and easy to care for.

Vinyl blinds are the perfect choice for high-humidity locations such as kitchens, bathrooms, or waterfront homes. Horizontal vinyl blinds with standard braided cord blinds and non-textured gloss slats are easy to clean, unbreakable and highly resistant to sun bleaching.

Richly textured embossed prints, elegant neutrals, and wood tones add a decorative dimension not typically found in horizontal blinds. They are available in both solid colors and faux embossed finishes, and are available in a wide variety of larger slat sizes from 2-3 inches (dependent on manufacturer). PVC blinds are a durable and fashionable solution as a window treatment - remaining durable and easy to maintain regardless of humidity or other factors.

Lightweight vinyl blinds are the least expensive blind available, but the thin slats can sag, the cords shred and the mechanisms break.
