Interior & Exterior Window Shutters

Shutters are similar to blinds in that they are made up of slat-like pieces of material (called louvers). Unlike blinds, however, both useable and decorative shutters are primarily made from wood and use a tilt bar for light and air filtration. Both exterior window shutters and indoor shutters add loads of personality to the area. The classic style colonial shutters are cheerful and fun, bringing light and air into your home on several levels. Cedar shutters are popular for their rustic beauty and charm, though faux wood shutters are quickly gaining recognition as well. Single or multi-paneled, hinge style, and length are all flexible to personal preferences.

Interior Decorating With Plantation Shutters

Filed under: Plantation shutters, window coverings, windows — Tags: , , , , , — admin @ 8:00 am

When decorating your home, remember to think about window coverings as an integral design element. With so many materials available today, choosing the right plantation shutters for your windows is both easy and affordable.  Just what are plantation shutters? As the name suggests, these window coverings were originally used in plantations, either in the deep South of the United States or in the Caribbean nations where slavery was the order of the day. Thankfully, slavery is now abolished, but the residual bonus is the window coverings we still call plantation shutters.  In warmer climates where curtains are perhaps unnecessary, shutters make good sense. They can block out the light and let in air at the same time. Plantation shutters are also referred to as louvers or California blinds.  Traditionally this style of shutter was made from a hardwood available locally (in the case of an actual plantation). Today’s plantation shutters are made from plastic, MDF (medium density fiberboard) or a blend of hardwoods. These materials all resist warping and a fairly wide price range is available today.

Advantages of Plantation Shutters

There are so many different options for window coverings for your home. These include blinds, shades, curtains, louvers, and shutters. One option that many people don’t think about when they are looking for window treatments is plantation shutters. There are a lot of advantages to getting plantation shutters.

Plantation shutters are one option that can really improve the looks of your windows.  These shutters look great, and usually look so nice you don’t even need to add a valance or curtains like you do with blinds or shades. They are usually made of wood, wood composite, or imitation wood. They can be custom made to fit any window, even those with odd shapes and curves that are hard to fit with many window treatment options. There are many different types of finishes and colors, so they can be made to match the décor in your house.

Plantation shutters are also long lasting. Blinds and shades can wear out relatively quickly, sometimes within only a couple years.  Metal blinds can get bent, and vinyl shades can tear. Fabric shades and blinds can get dusty and dingy looking and be difficult to clean. However, plantation shades are much sturdier and much less likely to wear out in a short time. They are also easily dusted so that they can be kept looking nice and clean.

History of the Mini faux wood blinds

A mini buy blinds is a type of non-vertical window mini blinds made of long, narrow slats held together by string and located inside the window. Its slats are not as wide as venetian window blinds slats.2 A mini custom blinds has more slats than a regular Venetian select blinds because its slats are narrow. The slats of mini blinds to gos are less than half the width of regular Venetian budget blinds. The slats are opened and closed by rotating a rod or by directly pulling a string. They are raised and lowered by pulling other strings.

Cheap blinds made of narrow, light-weight horizontal wood slats, adjustable to admit or exclude light, were developed in 1794, and called Venetian discount blindss. The cellular shades were often used instead of window curtains or shutters. In the 1840s, these faux wood blindss were held together by flat strips of cloth instead of by cords perhaps to shade the lift holes and like today they came in various colors.4 In 1966, a new pulley system was invented which afforded great improvement in the control mechanism. 5 Over time, narrower slats became more common, as they were easier to clean and they reduced glare at certain settings and their appearance was pleasing to many. In 1946 Henry Sonnenberg and Joe Hunter developed technology and equipment for the production of lightweight aluminum slats (50 mm) for Venetian buy blinds, and by 1979, 25 mm slats were popular.

A Look at Wood Shutters

Shutters are a wonderful addition to any home. They give the home an air of warmth and comfort, a feeling of home. They can be traditional or modern, farmhouse shabby or city chic.

Shutters can be made from a variety of materials, from vinyl to faux wood. The most popular, however is wood. Wood shutters, in general, are better made than their vinyl or faux counterparts. Though they are more expensive, they also add tremendous value to your home. Additionally, wood shutters offer more choices in style and design. They can be bought for all sizes and shapes of windows. For the moment, that is simply not the case with vinyl. If you live in a historic or landmark area, preservation of the history is important. Wood shutters are far more likely to reach that goal. In fact, some custom shutter companies will guarantee that their wood shutters are historically accurate.

Wood shutters can also be used inside the home. Plantation shutters are installed inside the windows in place of blinds. These offer added privacy and shade. Though they are offered in other materials, they are most often made of wood.

interior window shutters

One of the toughest things when you buy a new home is deciding which interior window shutters to purchase and install, and whether it would be wise for you to install them yourself, or have someone else install them. One of the things that can help you to make a better informed decision is by taking into consideration some key ingredients and factors for buying shutters. This guide should help you to be a lot more happy with the end results you have concluded with.

First of all it is wise to consider the types of interior shutters that you want to go with when purchasing a new home or an existing one. Will you go with fauxwood shutters or will you go with natural wood shutters that may not last as long? Wood plantation shutters are probably the big favorite down south in places like Texas and Florida where shutters are bought to keep the interior of a home more cool.

Another thing that you will also need to consider is the openings of your windows. Do they have an arch? If so you may need an arch window covering or window treatment to keep out sun if you don’t want to just cover the lower half with interior shutters. If you like it more open you might even go with cafe shutters which kind of open your home up to more light.
