I had an appointment today with a new client in Naperville. We were discussing the different options we have to cover the windows in her family room and kitchen. We started with wood blinds, she likes that look and I thought it is a good choice; it will go very well with her traditional home.
The second option was plantation shutters by Norman shutters.
She asked me for my opinion!
This is what I think:
- Shutters are richer looking.
- They provide an architectural element.
- They provide an excellent insulation.
- It adds value to the home when you are ready to sell.
It might be more expensive, but it is worth it!
And this is my honest opinion!!!

Concerned about the cost of custom draperies?
Need to worry no more! Let me share with you this project in Burr Ridge, Illinois!!!
My client’s vision for the room is to have a drapery panel pulled to the side of the window, in her TV room where she spends her evenings. She will be knitting and doing some crafts while viewing the TV.
After going over some designs, we settled for this gorgeous design that will add so much to the room and without breaking the bank!
Drapery panels can look stunning, with printed fabrics or solids, just by adding variation to the heading, or adding a contrast tie back! Simple, elegant and affordable!

My client has always dreamed of luxurious silk draperies for her bedroom. Her desire was to open her eyes to a magnificent window covering that would give her that happy jolt early in the morning, to help her start her busy day.
This is my design: Two stationary panels lined and interlined to give the feel of opulence and richness. The panels are trimmed in a tassel trim with multi colors, including the soft sea breeze blue. Over the silk, two side panels in sheers, gathered and pulled to the side. The soft, flesh color of the sheers coordinates so well with the flesh iridescence of the over cast in the main silk fabric. The sheers are trimmed again with the tassel fringe in the multi colors.
The treatment is crowned with a scalloped valance to add more femininity, serenity and luxury.
That is what we do, one of a kind look designed just for you!

Few Tips to remember when choosing window covering for your kitchen:
· When the kitchen design is simple and has no apparent focal point, why not have your window covering as a focal point?
· Use materials that can be cleaned easily. One way to protect the fabrics is by adding a protective coating to repel soil and grease.
· For over the sink window, try to have valances verse a treatment that drops longer, to avoid soil, and the treatment will soon lose its charm and elegance.
· Your colors textures and style has to enhance the design of the cabinetry, the flooring, the lighting, and the overall design of the kitchen.
· Allow ample light to come through the window. Having plenty of natural light is favored almost in every kitche.

5 Tips when selecting Custom Window fashions.
Custom Window covering does more to your home than just privacy and light control!
Designing the appropriate window covering not only will enhance the window itself, but it will affect the entire room décor.
There are so many factors that will determine the success of the selection of the window covering, a competent window fashion designer, will ask more questions than just the client’s personal style or preferences, questions like:
· who is going to use the room?
· What part of the day the room will be in use?
· What is the mood that the client wants to be created in the room?
· Are there any architectural elements that will influence the design, such as the molding on the ceiling or perhaps the molding around the window?
· Are the windows arched? Is it going to be enhanced, and emphasized?
Even though the selections and possibilities are vast, below are five tips that will help in starting any window covering project:
1. If the room is small and the goal is to make it seem larger and more spacious, then the color choice of the fabric should be as close as possible to the wall. On the other hand if the room is huge and the goal is to make it feel cozier, the colors can have an apparent contrast from the walls and perhaps using large patterns in the fabric will make the walls come forward, and the room will shrink somewhat.
2. How about the ceiling, is it too low? Is the goal to make it appear higher? Vertical lines or stripes are a good way to help make the ceilings seem higher, another tip is to install the draperies as close to the ceiling as possible.
3. Considering the furniture style, size and placement. Heavy, over sized draperies in a room with delicate, petite furniture will look odd.
4. The use and placement of decorative embellishments is another area where attention must be paid. The color and style of the trims, fringes and tassels are important as well as where to place them. Adding a fringe or a trim in the wrong place might ruin the entire look of the drapery.
5. Textures are so important in the overall drapery design. Using variety, mixing several together, or bringing in the element of surprise is a key in creating superb, one of a kind drapery.
Beautiful Window covering, will make any room beautiful. Think about it this way, what a Prada purse, or a tiffany necklace will do to any ordinary dress? I believe, it will make such an impact, the eye will be drawn to it and the simple dress will look stunning, and that’s what we call the wow factor!
That’s what the right window treatment does for you!

A question I always hear, why custom window covering is so expensive?
Often people feel if they are offered a Truly exceptional service, their purchases will cost them more than if they serve themselves, that is in any retail or discount store.
The truth is, when it comes to custom window fashions for your home or office that is hardly the case.
Window coverings that are ready made, which are bought from stores, have limited selections, limited widths and lengths, limited patterns and colors. Moreover, not to mention the hassle of having to select the appropriate hardware, and the installation, with the hope that it will look like the photo on the package.
That hassle and difficulty are exactly what you receive in exchange for any ‘savings’ you perceive to have made!
When working with a window fashion design professional, you not only have almost infinite options in colors, styles and custom creations to consider, right there at your home where they will actually be used and enjoyed, but also the luxury of knowing that every aspect of your window fashion selections will be handled in an integrated way. A truly custom purchase designed and fabricated just for you. This begins when we identify every detail of your windows, since every window is different. In addition the craftsmanship in creating your selections, and the professional installation provided it will make your project hassle free. The personalized shopping experience from start to finish, that almost has no equal, is for you to enjoy and for a budget that you have set and discussed with your designer. The results will be an amazing coordinated design that will bring you happiness and you will hear the compliments of your family, and friends for many years to come.

Say goodbye to winter with fresh spring colors!
No, it is not too early to start your spring projects! Why not getting a head start on the coming season by starting your decorating projects now! That will give you a wonderful feeling of new energy, and the new colors and textures hopefully will scare the winter away!
Start by looking at new fabrics, different styles, textures, and new patterns. One thing to remember is you must select your fabric first! A mistake many of my clients do is painting the walls first then they start to look for fabrics. This will only make it harder, and you will not get you the perfect match!
A great way to start is by finding a fabric that you absolutely love! You can use the fabric as your inspirational piece. Examine the colors in your fabric carefully then start pulling the colors by using paint chips. For example, look at the greens, find the matching color paint chips in the same greens, do the same with all other colors that exists in the fabric. Find out which color appeal to you most, that could be your main color you would like to use, and then choose a secondary color, the third one can be used as an accent!
Custom window covering is always the best way to add that fresh breath of a decorating air into your rooms, and if you are worried about cost, as your design professional and your consultant, I will assit you and together we will find the perfect look within the budget you set!
