Burr Ridge Draperies! Windows with WOW!

Last week we had an installation in Burr Ridge, Dupage county Illinois. The room design is still not yet complete, we are still waiting for some furniture and a light fixture to be delivered. Even though the room is not done completely, you still feel the power of adding the draperies. I have a video in the works, and some photos too to share with you! Watch out for next week  blog, will have some photos for you.

The fabric is from the Larry Laslo collection for the Robert Allen fabrics, the fabric Cufflinks color copper, is a unique contemporary fabric that is a cut out circles style. It was lined with black sheers to add depth, and body. The hardware we used is Bloome, the Orbit collection, a Robert Allen exclusive, as well.

A Dining Room Design, with the wow factor! Naperville Illinois.

What was the client’s desire for this beautiful dining room?

I get a call from this wonderful client that I met in the mid nineties, and been working with her since then. Her house, located in Naperville, Dupage county Illinois, saw three different changes since then. She likes to update her house with new designs about every five to six years, and she gets so much joy each time with the transformation.

This time it is her dining room, her dream is to have a dining room that she could use every now and then for her, her husband, and the children when they come for visit.

She wanted a dining room that is formal enough for guests, yet it is user friendly for every day use.

She loves painted furniture, therefore we had her oak colonial dining table to be faux painted and distressed with several layers of paint to give depth to the piece in addition adding distressing where it looked natural from wear and tear of years of use. Her draperies came out looking stunning! We have selected together a cotton fabric printed with fruits, and a color scheme that works with the rest of the house. The fabric was a classic, though what made the draperies so special are the banding on the leading edges of each panel, a solid yellow cotton was selected that worked amazingly well with the main body of the drapery, the faux finished table and the wall paint.

Grommets were inserted along the length of the panels, right on the banding and a braid fringe was threaded through the grommets! We Both, my client and myself were so impressed by that look! Now that what we call ( THE WOW FACTOR)!

Tips on how to create beautiful top treatments without breaking the bank!

What determines the cost of any window covering are the labor cost, materials used and the installation cost.

Here are some tips to consider when you are planning your next window covering project!

· The design: the simpler the design, the less expensive the treatment will be. Flat valances, inverted pleat valances, shirred and pinch pleated on a board, or a cornice board is considered less costly to fabricate. You can add a little touch to a simple flat valance by adding a contrast trim, tassels on each end, or perhaps some buttons in a coordinating fabric.

· The cost of the materials: The variety is endless when selecting fabrics. You can find gorgeous cottons, silks, and woven blends at an affordable price. Mixing textures, or adding coordinating inexpensive trims, will give you that designer quality look at an affordable price. Another tip is to perhaps splurge on the hardware, and choose a modestly priced fabric. The rich, opulent look of the hardware will make up for the simplicity of the style and your choice of the fabric.

· The installation cost: One way to cut on the installation cost is by choosing economically installed treatments. Cornices, and board mounted valances, are less expensive to install than sheared or pleated on a rod.

Finally, the best way to save money is by work with a professional, who will help you avoid costly mistakes, direct you, share expertise and resources, and respect your budget and work within it.

Cornices, great way to dress your windows!

Some might think that cornices are old fashion, out dated look as window treatment. As a matter of fact, cornices are coming back in fashion and there are so many ways to make them unique!

Here are some ideas for cornices as a modern window fashion :-

  1. Tufted Cornices.
  2. Metallic, decorative nails added to the cornices.
  3. Leather instead of fabric, or a mix of fabric and leather.
  4. various trims. Check out Robert Allen collections of trims, Kravet trims, Rm Coco trims, and Brimar.
  5. Textural fabrics like velvets, chenille, and wool.
  6. Arched, cutouts, and shaped lower edge.
  7. Adding special hinges, grommets, and decorative hardware.
  8. Adding blings and shimmer! I have used once real crystals.

The sky is the limit for ideas, let your imaginations free and be courageous!

We have installed stunning, elegant, and unique cornices in an upscale homes of Hinsdale, Oakbrook, Burr Ridge, Chicago and Naperville.

We can bring them to your home, with your style in mind!
