I am out on the streets and in the neighborhoods, shaking hands and leaving doorhangers with information about Exciting Windows by Hummingbird Shutters . We are a full-service window treatment company. We offer in-home consultations and bring product and fabric samples to you.
I am out canvassing because it is one of the best ways to generate customer appointments. Today I was in a south Greenville, SC neighborhood, on an appointment. After I finished I walked and drove to the other houses and introduced myself and/or left company information at 37 homes. It resulted in 2 appointments, both folks were very glad I stopped by and introduced myself and company. I look forward to creating custom window treatments for them. Plantation Shutters and soft treatments a great combination. To the left is a photo from a job we installed. We first installed the shutters for the customer and a year later we were called back to help complete the look in the bay in the Master bedroom. The client did not want the treatment to come over the top of the shutters to allow the shutters to continue to open for access to the windows . Our solution was to make a cornice (which allowed the shutter to pass underneath), with drapery panels to complete the look.

Most shutters are simple, a rectangle. Others provide more of a challenge. Today we successfully installed an oval wood Plantation Shutter. It was fun for our shop to produce. The photo displays a Poplar wood shutter, with 3.5″ louvers, custom painted in SW Warm Patina paint to match the customers trim. The customer was thoroughly delighted with the end result. Today found Hummingbird Shutters at the Southern Home and Garden Show, in Greenville, SC. Traffic was good and we handed out over 500 entries to the Exciting Windows $10,000 Makeover sweepstakes. Attendees were interested in our 4.5″ Plantation shutters, our custom drapery and motorized shades. We are also looking forward to Michael Payne’s visit on Saturday from 10:30 - 3:30. Come see us.

It is Home and Garden Show season. The next 4 days we are at the Southern Home and Garden Show in Greenville, SC. We are displaying Plantation Shutters, Custom Drapery, a variety of shades and motorized window treatments. Come by and visit with us at booth 327

This past Sunday through Tuesday was the 5th Annual Exciting Windows conference is Baltimore, MD. It is a time of learning, training, meeting with vendors, hearing about new services and technologies, networking with fellow EW peers, from around the country, and celebrating acheivements. This was our third conference and every year there is always something that is taken away that helps us be a better window fashions company. This year was no exception, we heard of a new exclusive (to Exciting Windows) “Heirloom Quality” Custom Drapery program that will launch Spring 2009. Another highlight was the annual Window Fashion Design contest. This year we, Hummingbird Shutters submitted an entry. Besides submitting a photo of the completed custom window treatment, there were several questions and criteria to meet, and with being new to soft treatments we wanted to enter but figured that winning would be difficult against seasoned drapery professionals. Well to our suprise our entry was awarded 2nd place by the judges. We are truly honored to be recognised and delighted by this award. As a winner we will have a press release in our local paper and also in a national industry magazine. Since adding soft window treatments to our product offering 2 years ago I have had to challenge myself professionally. I have always enjoyed the window treatment business, but hard treatments are somewhat limiting, effective and functional. Being someone who truly enjoys color and selling, learning about and offering soft treatments was a simple addition. Professional training in window covering has greatly aided me in creating beautiful drapes, roman shades and top treatments.

Windows treatments are really the finishing touch to a room or home, like a great cup of coffee after a wonderful meal…it completes the experience.
