Hello Maineville! The Color Forcasters called for Turquoise to be the color of 2010. This Maineville Dining Room is right in style! Contrasting with the beautifully faux painted walls, but highlighting the tones in the rug, are these graceful and dramatic silk draperies in a fabulous turquoise shade. Notice how the bead trim detail adds extra life to the design. Simple, yet incredibly elegant! See more great designs on our website.

That was the title of the Lunch n Learn that I presented to a large group of women in downtown Cincinnati. Using a miniature bed display, we discussed the different types of bedding available. Bedspread, coverlet, or comforter? Do you know the difference? www.EWbyKimLyon.com

Sometimes a window treatment calls for some sort of specialty hardware. A “swing arm” is just such a thing. This might be used over a shutter so that it can swing open with the shutter door. Or perhaps another application when the drapery rod can only be attached to the wall on one side. At a trade show earlier this year, I found a fabulous new type of swing arm rod. It is made by Helser Brothers and comes in many fabulous finishes. You can see in the photo that what makes this rod different is the attached holdback. This can easily be used for swinging the arm, in addition to holding back the drapery. This is much better than having to reach up to the top of the swing arm to move it, especially on a tall window.

Have you seen the House Hunter’s show on HGTV? A couple is searching for a new home, they look at three properties, weigh the pros and cons of each, and then decide which one is right for them. Choosing a window treatment design can be much the same process. I am currently working with a couple that had a difficult time deciding how to treat their arched dining room window. The very large window is on the front of the house, so they felt on display to all their neighbors. It also faces west, so the sun has begun to fade everything in the room, as well as just be too bright to look at in the late afternoon. They also felt it was time to add some fabric to soften the room and add a decorative element. With privacy, light control, and decorative design in mind we set out to find the perfect solution for them. With so many options, what would they choose? They settled on applying a window film for the light control and adding a Hunter Douglas Silhouette Shade for the privacy. And this is a rendering of what the finished design will look like. I’ll be sure to share the “real” photo after the installation.

A brand new Nordstrom department store is opening in my town this week. There is quite a buzz in the air about it. Why? We have other department stores. Appearing in the Cincinnati Enquirer today, is an article that I believe tells you why. Nordstrom’s is famous for their customer service. Not just the normal service, but the kind that makes you stand up and take notice. I am proud to say that we strive to create the same buzz at Exciting Windows! by Kim Lyon. We go above and beyond expectations regularly with our clients. When you start with genuinely nice, friendly people, it is hard to act any other way. All of our vendors and subcontractors are chosen with the same care. So, why would you buy a blind from us, when you can buy it anywhere? As the Enquirer article concludes, “We’re selling a service. People come here because they like to be taken care of.” The fact that 60% of our business last year came from repeat clients or their referrals is loud and clear. Our clients know they will be taken care of.

While in Atlanta at the 2009 IWCE, I became a Certified Color Consultant with Exciting Windows. Selecting paint color for a room is such a daunting task for many people. If repainting is part of the decorating plan for your room, I can help with the color selection. We will select fabric first, and then the paint color. It is always better to match paint to fabric instead of trying to find a fabric that matches your paint. I offer this as a complimentary service with the purchase of window treatments. Don’t be afraid of adding color to your world!
